2011 NEW Oil (ROK)
Due
to a number of reasons, the ROK Cup Canada series will now run the New
Rotax XPS Synthetic kart race oil. There are a few advantages to
this.
1. Those who use the same kart for ROK and Rotax will not have
tech issues with changing from one oil to another.
2. This oil is reported to be much cleaner in the burning
process as well as does not leave behind as much residue and gum as the
Motul does.
3. Does not discolor the tanks like the Motul does.
4. We are not making a big deal about using a “Rotax” product
for spec oil in the ROK series, hopefully you all understand that there
is more to it than “who” makes the oil.
5. The container is 946ml and is expected to sell for
$22.95 plus taxes. This is less than the Motul was.
For SSKC Club Races Only:
You can use any remaining oil you may have until stock runs out. I will
also sell remaining inventory out and will then only stock the new XPS
oil. Please remember for the ROK Cup events, even here you will be
required to run the XPS oil!

Basic
Driving Techniques – Cornering
When you first get
interested in karting it can be difficult to find good quality
information about the sport. Most of the web sites concentrate on
getting you involved with a kart club and then depend on the general
mentoring by club members in the various aspects of racing. It is
nice to have some reference material to review after the introduction,
especially on some of the technical elements of racing. This
first article is designed to provide some reference of basic driving
techniques as it pertains to cornering.

@ Majestc Car Show
Saturday/Sunday - April 24th &
25th, 2010
The
Majestics Car Club hosted their 44th
annual event and South Sask Kart Club was once again at the show with
an impressive 10 karts covering 4 booths at the show. We had a
very
nice location at the show along side two of the major walkways around
the display. Keith Miller once again provided his K&M
Motorsport
trailer as a backdrop for the booth.
Setup
on Friday evening we very well with a great turnout of club members who
brought down their karts and helped with the set up; getting everything
ready for the next two days of the show. Saturday had a fairly
steady
stream during the day with the evening being a little less busy.
Thanks to Sam, Kevin and Bart for handling the day shift and then Keith
and Stacy for taking care of the evening hours. The Sunday
showing was
much improved with the cooler weather driving people to indoor
activity. It is hard to measure the number of folks who stopped
by for
an extended chat about karting, but it was easily a few hundred with
many picking up race schedules. Thanks to Sam, Keith and Bart for
kicking off the day and then Kevin, Stacy, Bob, Mark and Gary arriving
in time to help with the larger crowd and the tear down at the end of
the day.
Overall
the show seemed well attended and we had several dozen folks make some
serious inquiries, especially in the Junior 1 area. If they
follow
through we could see a few more juniors starting this year.

Open House
Friday - March 26, 2010
The South Sask Kart Club held an
open house and club social. Thanks to the folks at Regina Center
Crossing for providing the lobby area for the club to setup the display
area. The event was well attended with current and returning
members of the club as well as a dozen or so of the public who were
interested in seeing and hearing about the sport of kart racing.
The club had a variety of hand-outs for the public as well as a rolling
display of picturres from local karting events and pictures from the
2009
ROK cup in Longo, Italy from the picture collections of Sam Ferris and
Keith Miller.
A few of the attendees had their picture taken in a kart, so if anyone
wants a copy of the picture that was taken, please contact Bart Ritchie
via email and he can send you a copy of the picture. Follow this link
to see a few pictures from the event.

The
ROK International Final was held in grand style with driver numbers
that broke all records (more than 300 in total), from more than nations
than ever (35 countries in total) and spectacular racing that will be
remembered for years to come.
***
Summary from CRG West ***
Team
Canada had an amazing time at the Rok Cup World Finals in Lonato
Italy. Kris Hoffbeck, Bob Wakeling, Nick Ferris, and Chad Grunow had
the opportunity to race against some of the best drivers in the world.
The
Rok Senior class had 102 drivers and Rok Junior had 63, with 23
countries being represented. Hoffbeck was the fastest Canadian driver
in qualifying and placed his CRG kart in 17th position. Bob Wakeling
qualified his CRG in 75th, and Nick Ferris was in 80th. In the junior
class, Chad Grunow placed his CRG in 53rd position, unfortunately,
Grunow was at a great disadvantage, beings susbtantially overweight for
the junior class.
The
drivers each had three qualifying races to determine their starting
position for the final race. Hoffbeck and Wakeling took part in the
first qualifying race of the weekend. Hoffbeck was starting in 4th
position and Wakeling in 18th. The sun was out but the track was still
very wet from morning rain. Due to an error by the parc ferme
officials, both Hoffbeck and Wakeling were unable to use their alloted
rain tires and were forced to go out on slicks, while the majority of
the drivers were on rains. Because of this unfortunate circumstance,
both drivers fell way back in the field and could only hope for better
results in the next two qualitying races. In Hoffbeck's second race, he
had an amazing run and worked his way up to second position.
The
top five drivers all broke away from the field and just fought
amongst themselves in the last couple of laps. In those last few laps,
Hoffbeck dropped a few positions to eventually finish fifth. All
Hoffbeck needed was another good result in his final qualifying race to
put him safely into the final. In his third and final qualifying race,
Hoffbeck was running in 7th position when his battery cable came loose
and cut the power to his motor, ending his race and also his chance at
making the top 34 final race. Hoffbeck did race in the Dellorto Cup
(the B Main), and worked his way up from 25th on the grid to 21st.
Wakeling
had consistent results in his qualifying heats, he was
consisently placing in the mid to late teens but unfortunately it was
not enough for Wakeling to qualify for the final or the B main
(Dellorto Cup).
Ferris
unfortunately suffered the same fate as Wakeling: while he ran
consistently through out his heats, he was unable to score enough
points to advance him to either the final or the B Main.
In
the junior category, Grunow ran well, considering his weight
disadvantage, but was also unable to make the final and had to settle
for the B Main.
Despite
some bad luck, all the drivers had an amazing time running in
this world class event.
Become
a race event volunteer
...
and get the
best seat in the
house
If you
have ever thought
of being
involved in racing, here is your chance. The SSKC is actively seeking
volunteers to assist in all aspects of club activities including race
events. As a volunteer race official, you will be directly involved
with the success of each event and be closer to the action than anyone
else. Witness Regina and area's next racing
stars at speeds reaching in excess of 140 KPH as they come screaming
into a
corner, jockey for position on the backstretch, or go two wide through
the straightaways. If you
want to be involved and learn the basics of racing, the SSKC is
currently taking names and numbers from all interested people. Training
for all respective positions is available through the the club, so no
experience is necessary.
The
following positions
are available:
* Corner Marshals
* Weigh Scale Marshall
* Grid/Pit Marshall
* Lap Scoring and Time Keeper
* Recovery Vehicle Operator
